Cessna will add mobile, large-volume measurement to its production floor’s capabilities with the implementation of Leica Geosystems laser trackers. Leica announced recently that Cessna Aircraft Co. had contracted to buy eight of the company’s portable coordinate measuring machines.
The acquisition comprises four Leica LTD840 Laser Trackers and four Leica LTD640 laser trackers. The Leica LTD840 laser tracker can be used to measure a full aircraft or inspect a specific component of a large assembly. Cessna, based in Wichita, Kansas, is the world’s largest manufacturer of general aviation airplanes.
Leica Geosystems laser tracking systems are used extensively for the construction of aerospace tools, precision alignment of large assemblies, the inspection of airplane production parts, part-mating operations, and more.
